New Seedlings Dropped
New seedlings are finally here. I’ve had some ready for a while, but was too busy with other spring plant related and homesteading work to be ready to engage filling orders. Some stragglers from last year are still here, but lots of new stuff too. The newer cactus are still sizing up, so many will be restocked as they grow out over the next month or two. https://www.teamwachuma.com/store/p/san-pedro-seedlings-12-to-34-inch
I have mutants again. Many are not listed yet, but more are definitely coming in the following months. I have to get them up to a size where I can assess what I want to pull out for further observation. In seed lots that throw a significant number of mutants, “Mutoid” Means that they are showing signs of mutation when I list them. “Normie” means they are not showing signs of mutation. Normies may still mutate as they grow out. You just never know. TPQC, Olivia, TPM and Shamaness are all mutoid prone parentage. Some crosses throw lots of them and some throw only a few or sometimes none. If it is a seed lot that does not throw many mutants, it will just be listed with out the “normie” or “mutoid” qualifier. I can only tell you if they are mutating when I list them or not. Shamaness TPM is a new addition this season and I have a lot more seed crosses of it coming next season thanks to Will Tomlinson of Oakland Cactus Company. How many mutants it will tend to throw is not yet known.
Some crosses with mutant parents throw hella mutants and some very few to none.
I have a few seedlings of the seeds I got from Huachuma Collective, Churin, Canete, Caraz and Matucana. These look to be Peruvianus leaning genetics collected by Huachuma Collective in Peru. All proceeds go to them to support their work. I should have more coming this season and next, but germination rates were not very good on some of them. Hoping to get more different seeds from them in the future. Learn about Huachuma Collective and make donations here https://www.huachumacollective.org/ They have really stepped up to do the work. Their main limitation at this point is funding.
If you like juicy scopulicola, the MB X DR. G are some real dyed in the wool Aussie genetics. I have a lot this year and stock will be updated as they mature.
Some scopalicious MB x DR. G seedlings from last year. Spine size may very well continue to decline as they mature, but you never know.
Ferra x Pala seeds came from Trevor at The Cactus Jones. Ferra is a super juicy scopulicola and Pala is a high test bridge leaning cactus that is very similar to oceanside and probably a hybrid (peru x bridge?) Some think Pala is just oceanside. I have both and still can’t tell.
The seeds for next year are all sown and it looks like it is going to be an epic haul of seedlings. I’ve dialed in some stuff related to germinating and I sowed a lot, perhaps too many :/ I don’t have any bulk flats this summer, but I plan to have some in the next round.
Looks like my new sowing and germination methods are working.
I also have cuttings already cut and larger plants with roots to sell, but when I can get to listing those is unknown to any of us.
Enjoy and remember, every cactus you gift or put in the ground somewhere could have major ripple effects. This is a mutually dependent relationship. They can’t spread themselves.
Have a great summer friends <3
